Program Info
We at Sinner Computing are big fans of fighting games, especially the Soul Calibur series. We feel that to enjoy these games to its fullest you
should change your character regularly, but the random feature in Soul Calibur seems to favour certain characters, and we do not like some
of the characters anyway. At first we tried various methods to get around this problem (moving over the character select screen like a
chess knight was the most interesting idea) but eventually we decided the answer was obvious; write our own random routine.
Versus can be configured for almost any One on One competition, including non computer ones, by simply editing the configuration file.
In addition to showing the next selection, there is display of a few of the previous bouts. Versus can be set to prevent repeat
selections, and also to prevent mirror matches. It is also possible to prioritise some selections over others.

Installation
Run "Setup.exe" and follow the instructions. To remove Versus, use the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control
Panel. Versus stores all its data files in the designated application data area, often
"C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Sinner\Versus\". If you would prefer that it saves in the same directory as
Versus either run the program from a removable drive, such as a floppy of a USB drive, or delete the "DefSet.txt" file from the
Versus directory.
Use
Versus comes ready for use with Soul Calibur IV (and with Soul Calibur II and III names entered but not enabled), but it is an easy
matter to change. Open up Versus and press the "About" button to show the "About" window. Select "Prog Dirs"
from the selection box at the bottom, press "Open Dirs" and then close Versus after the two folder windows open. In the folder
window that does not have "Versus.exe" in it open the Versus.txt file. This is just a plain text file and you simply add any
names you want to the list, up to a total of 1000. Any name is OK providing it has less than 100 characters, although long names will be
clipped in the main view. If there is a name you wish to temporally disable simple add "#" in front of it. You can also
prioritise some selections over others by simply adding more than one copy of the name. There must be a carriage return (enter) after the
last name. When finished simply save the file and reload Versus.
Once the configuration file is finished you are ready to rumble. Simply press the "Go" button to select the next bout. To
view a list of the previous matches press the "More" button and the window will expand. (The list shows a maximum of
approximately 5000 selections. When this is exceeded then the start of the list is progressively erased.) Also shown when the window is
expanded is the selection options. These allow you to enable/disable mirror matches (as in select the same name for both sides) and to
enable/disable repeating. If you want a list fast you can press the "10 More" or "100 More" buttons, and you can use
the "Copy" function for a one-button copy to the clipboard.
System Impact Statement
We go to great lengths to reduce system impact, but we feel that it is still important to explain here what our programs do to your
system. If you feel we are missing something, or you need further clarification, please contact us.
Registry | Versus does not uses the registry. The installer that comes with Versus
uses the registry only for the required un-installation data, and not at all if you use the "Extract Only" mode. |
System Settings | Versus does not change any system settings. |
Files | All program files are stored in the installation directory, and all data files are stored in the
designated application data area, often "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Sinner\Versus\". If you would
prefer that it saves in the same directory as Versus either run the program from a removable drive, such as a floppy of a USB drive, or
delete the "DefSet.txt" file from the Versus directory. These directories can be opened via the About box. |
Network | Versus does not need to access the network. The installer does not access the internet in any way,
but the ReadMe does have three graphic files that are stored on the internet. (They are not used as web-beacons, merely spacers and
images for the payment processors.) |
CPU | Versus does not have any CPU demanding functions. |
Memory | Versus has no major memory requirement. |
Programmers Notes
There shouldn't be any major apparent changes in this version. It is just a rebuild of the lower libraries.
This program was written for the purpose that it does. Nothing more, nothing less. Even so, if you think that it needs a bit more then
please send me your ideas. Remember though that I want it to remain small and free. Thus anything complicated probably will not happen.
